Porsche LED Logo Projector Lights

Hello all,

TGIA(almost)F!!

Surely, everyone has seen the LED projectors many enthusiasts have been installing under the door sills that project an emblem on the road surface when the door is opened.

There are a couple different kinds, some that need drilling and tapping into the door lights, others that are plug and play depending on car and model year.

LED Lights in Brand:Porsche | eBay

Has anyone on here installed anything like it? I searched the forum and was surprised that I didn't see a single post on this(maybe I didn't look for the right search terms, who knows).

Post up people that have done this mod, thought about it, think its cool, think its ugly etc..

Cheers!

this is extremely tacky.

I must add that I have seen this online on many sites several times and never thought much of it, but I happened to see one of these kits installed on my friends BMW 1M and I must admit it actually looked sorta nice in the dark. The logo was bright and the colors were good, not blurry and washed out. It almost looked like it could have been offered as a factory option.

Not saying I will run out the door and get a set installed but then again, I guess everyone is still entitled to their opinion and taste.

It's actually pretty cool. The downside - every time you get in you car you have to step on the Porsche logo. That's bad juju. Just like sports teams have their logo on the floor - but they all make sure to step around it. The lights look like they shine right where you need to step.

That's a good point.
I actually kind of liked them after seeing some in person. I'll never have them after what you said. :p

Baaaaaad juju :D

Looks like you could step around, haha :)

It's a little too flashy for my taste. But I am curious how they are installed, does anyone know?

You drill a hole into the bottom of the door (through your nice dipped paint).
Personally, I would never do it.

I may put the Porsche lights on my Dodge Neon, though. :D :D
That would be funny!

You serious???

I have all the designs ready for a Illuminated Sill Trim made of aluminum (my next DYI lol). Back lit and all. Requires you to drill a hole and snake in/out 12VDC to the unit but then it should be covered by the Sill Trim.

Not even a 1/4" little hole?!

OP - those are made here and I've never seen anyone here with them installed. Says a lot I guess.

Nonetheless it is a pretty cool little add-on. I could see this in a Show Car Event with let's say a car (onto a carpet) having its door opened showing their custom design-team logo tho... NOT the automaker's TM lol. And then, everybody now knows it's a $20 eBay item and that alone practically ruins the idea :/ Can't be placed onto a luxury vehicle but fine for a Japanese make type car I guess

Dunno... like you said; your car; your taste

Well, anything you make will be awesome, so I may just change my policy...maybe ;) :D

Interesting points all.. Although if someone just wants to see what they would look like or likes them but does not want to get involved with the drilling and wiring, they make wireless ones too apparently - http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=131311665851

This is the same concept most security alarms use for door and window sensors. The only downside is that you have to mount it where it's visible and that might look a little tacky.

TGIF finally!!

I think there is a very good reason that no one has talked about installing them.

The companies that run Port-a-Potties business have a saying, "One man's shat is another man's gold".

I have some on my 6 series. kinda cool, I like them. No drilling recquired, takes the place of the original lamps under the door and bright enough to still be actually functional.
