Silver hood crest
Does anybody have a picture of a silver good crest on a silver porsche, I have seen it before but I have had no luck finding any.http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1415127316.jpg
You could reach out to Boxstersteve on here. He has a silver crest on his Arctic Silver Box.
I don't have any pictures handy and my car is filthy at the moment but I have a silver crest on my Artic Silver with clear markers, chromed wheels, and the terracotta interior. I love it!
It's a 3D decal, but you get the idea. It's hibernation time, so the camera angle sucks. The car is half a foot from the garage wall.

How do you figure? Either that or I'm missing the humour. Don't mind me, we're just back from a holiday at Disney World in Florida and I'm still really knackered from 9 days of walking and standing in lines... |
Its photographed upside down.......don't worry, we seem to be the butt of all these types of jokes !!
Stupid iPad.
When I previewed, the pic was the proper way up. Just turn your monitor upside-down. :D |

That looks great! Thank you. They sure have the hood crest nuts hidden well... This should be fun |
the crest nuts are easy. it is fitting the rubber gasket over the crest that is the fun part.
Hot water should make the gasket go on pretty easy, I will have to stuff some shop towel into my socket when installing the nuts though. They don't give you very much room to work with
BumperPlugs sells a very nice high quality silver hood crest. Not cheap.
why not just move over the gasket and self threading nuts?
 Just be careful to not over-tighten them on install... |
For others looking for a different hood crest, Intrepidagent on Rennlist offers custom finished crests, with a lot of options available.
I broke the old gasket :p it was a little hard after the years
It was a tiny bit bigger than the oem hood badge made it a real struggle with the gasket >.< http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1416612934.jpg
You're supposed to soak the gasket in hot water prior to installing it to make it slightly larger and more pliable. Doing it cold would indeed be difficult.

Cool. I bought a reconditioned silver crest on eBay for $80. Big mistake.. Did not come with hardware or gasket. Bought one on Pelican for $20. Did not fit. Bought another from automtion also did not fit perfectly. Pegs broke on crest. Trip to home Depot for jb qwick weld. After two month red and blacks have washed away and silver looks duller than the old crest. |

Did that, my oem crest fit perfect with the gasket, this one I had to pry a lot with a toothpick |
Black & brushed nickel crest installed
I has to use my original gasket as I could not stretch the gasket that came with the crest enough to make it fit. Pleased with the look of the new crest as it gives the car a bit of 'outlaw' look to it. Here are two pics.

HOLIDAY SPECIAL - Reduced Pricing on Custom Refinished Hood Crests! - Rennlist Discussion Forums I ordered the middle one pictured. A bit pricey but I treated myself for the holidays. Both wife and I really like the look. Check them out. AKL:cheers: |
I almost bought one from him last year when he was selling them on eBay but the brushed nickel was the one I really liked, and it was $199. I think I am going to get one now that he is running them on special... thanks for the heads up!
