Thanks

Anyone ever used this ?

FWD Front Wheel Bearing Adapters

I know the general advise on Horror Freight but I will probably use it one time

I bought one but took it back. Could not get it to work properly. Had a local machine shop press out the old bearings and press in the new. Well worth the small charge.

Thanks Opus

It looks as though you still have to completely disassemble the hub so why not just DIY or buy a cheap press ???

Because with the Sir tool you do not need to take the suspension apart and there is no re alignment afterwards. Great time and cost saving tool.

Rent me one

I did it with the Harbor Freight set. It worked great on the rear and I did not need to remove any suspension parts. Found a video where a guy did his BMW and just did what he did.

Which Kit did you use ?

dan.oneufer 10-04-2014 03:32 PM

I used the one you were asking about. With coupons I think I paid $80 or so. See the video on You Tube . Search "Bmw wheel bearing harbor freight".

Keep us posted as to how you make out with your project. Thinking about overhauling my suspension also.

+ 1

Dan,

Reading this post has motivated me to replace the rear wheel bearings that after 75K miles started to humm..? perhaps the 15mm wheel spacers helped to accelerate their expected life.

Could you please advise which is the Kit (or P/N) from Harbor Freight is the one you bought ..?

Harbor Freight Item Number 66829. Showing now as $119. Be certain that you have the appropriate size socket or wrench for both "ends" of the screw. If I recall they are quite large.

Good Luck.

Dumb question, but the HF site says it's for Front Wheel Bearings. Will this kit work on the Rear on our cars?

Any pics from a DIY using this particular set?

Check out post #10.
He mentions a video on You Tube . Search "Bmw wheel bearing harbor freight".
It's very informative, I'm picking up that Horror Freight set next time I head there.

That is the correct kit. I wondered about front vs. rear when I was looking too. I didn't take any DIY pictures, but you should get all the info you need watching this video:

Wheel Bearing Removal with Harbor Freight Universal Tool BMW 3 Series Rear Front - YouTube

Read the reviews on the tool at Harbor Freight's website too. Follow the advice about using lubricant on the threaded rod and washers.

If needed, you also have the perfect opportunity to replace the emergency brake shoes while you are in there.

Pdwight 10-11-2014 07:00 AM

My tool is on its way in, I got my new bearings in from Pelican yesterday, along with new CV Boots, new grease, lubricant for the 6S manual transmission. My E Brake shoes are in good condition (mine was a Florida car so it never saw a hill in it's early life). I am going to do it all when I have it apart so I don't have to think "I wish I had done this or that....also new Rear control arms.
