Wheel BEaring Problems ??

Im not sure, I took the car for a 2 hour drive today with the top up and I do not remember my car being this loud. Most of the sound seems to be coming from the rear drivers side...but I could be wrong as sounds play funny tricks on ears. Is there a way to tell if the wheel bearing is bad short of changing it out ?

ALso could be the CV joints as well....but the boots look good?

My S has 70K miles on it (2001)

Bearings are a great project even if it's not the sound if never done. My car felt, sounded better and lost a lot of what I called "road noise". Do all 4.

Inner CVs are cake. Do them too.

Don't forget the motor mount, replaced mine at 65k and reduced the "road noise" quite a bit.

Timken # 513106 is what is listed for the Boxster for both front and back.....the same number bearing fits my BMW E-36 both front and back......what are the odds

I was performing some maintenance on my car and thought while I had it up and the radiator hose's off I might as well replace the motor mount as many on here stated how it should be replaced around 60,000 miles.

Now even though I did not notice any of the tale-tale signs of a failing motor mount I thought it would be good proactive work.

After I had replaced and finished my other items went for a nice drive with the top up at the time (raining on and off) with my wife and having a nice conversation when she looked at me and asked if I noticed anything...... She then said she no longer has to talk loud ;-)

It was quite a difference, the noise level in the car and the vibration I guess over time I just got used to.

Both on Pelican Parts and Pedro's garage sites (along with this forum) detail the process for change.

Test drive at night while it's much quieter. Find a smooth road with a solid wall next to it so you can drive close to the wall and hear the sounds your car makes bounce off the wall.
