Pittsburgh Info

Hello folks south of the border.
I am taking a drive to Pittsburgh this week-end to catch the Steelers game.
Anyone from the Pittsburgh area have any suggestions for curvy roads for the trip down, I will be crossing the border in Buffalo, also where to stay in the city. I am not that interested in parking at the game, so I am willing to take public transit, staying down town is not a must. any info on areas of the city to avoid would also be grateful, I don't want my car messed up while parked for the week-end.

lots of great country roads to follow for your trip down. At Buffalo, take Route 5 west all the way to Ripley NY (this is a great drive - very little traffic and curvy, scenic roads), then jump on to the thruway (I-90) west to Rt 8 south, right before Erie (instead of 79 south - it runs parallel). You could go over to Rt 19 south as well, and that is a very nice country drive too. If either route gets too long, just jump onto 79 south to complete the trip.
as for places to stay, there are a few hotels down near the stadium, but may be hard to get a room now. You can stay at one of the hotels on McKnight Rd just north of the city, and drive in for the game on Sunday. I recommend parking downtown at the Theatre Square parking garage on 7th Street (just off Fort Duquesne Blvd), and walking over to the stadium. It will be easier to get in and out of the game, and the tailgaters won't puke on your car.
Supposed to be a great weekend. Hope you are rooting for the Steelers!

Thanks linderpat for the info. I have been a Steelers fan since the days of Mean Joe. I am happy that when I wear my 92 jersey to the game, Harrison will be back on the sidelines if not actually playing.

Pittsburgh is one of the most underrated cities in the US. I have been there many times and enjoyed myself. The views from the hills around the city are nothing short of amazing. As a bonus there are tons of awesome roads in that part of the state to enjoy. One of my favorites is Route 666 that runs next to preachers creek. I just wish it was easier to get to and a little longer. Enjoy your trip.
