How to remove coin holder?

I am removing the rear console in my 2000 Boxster. There is a "coin holder" inside the little storage compartment. I understand that there is a screw under there that to be removed requires that I take out the coin holder. I am talking about the little vertical black ridgy thing that holds quarters. I found reference online to using a small flat screwdriver at the bottom. There is a little tab slot where I can put the screwdriver, but a fair amount of pressure caused it to bow quite a bit and not come out. Of course, I am weary of breaking the thing or scratching something else.

Is there a trick to it? Do I just need to push it straight up, or does it move backward, or maybe something different?
