Pulled the trigger this week.
Well, I have been here on the forum contributing and learning now for over 3 years. I decided to sell my beloved 2000 Boxster back in June to look for something a little more modern. Possibly a 987S. I finally sold it after 3 month of trying. I drove a few 987 Boxsters and almost bought a couple. Something kept telling me to wait for the right one. I found a 1999 911 Carrera that had 26,000 miles and was in mint condition. Only 2 previous owners and the one I bought it from put 2000 miles on it in 3 years. Below are some pic's. It will be going in next Tuesday for a IMS and RMS replacement so I can have peace of mind driving for the forcseeable future. I will always hang out here because this the greatest Porsche forum out there.
Thanks for all the good times. Sorry, I can't get photos to upload on my I pad. Never had a problem before. I will try again later. :( Finally go the pisc to load. See second page for PICS. |
Full throttle what kind of trickery is this?!!! JK. Congrats looking forward to seeing some pictures. Enjoy

I can't believe I cant up load a picture taken from my iPad. Done it many times.
By the way, I love my Carrera as much as I did my boxster. The extra HP is very addicting. |
Trimer. Love the color of the Carrera. My Boxster was blue on blue. Great color combo.
Your right about being incredible. I still think my Boxster felt a little more planted though. Quote:

Congrats on the buy! I have considered that jump myself watching those 996 prices come down.

I can't get enough of the power of the 996. My interior is the Cinamon brown leather and with that blue...midnight blue, it is just gorgeous. I hope you get many many years of enjoyment out of it.

Question for you new 911 owners. Did you notice a signifcant difference over the 987S cars? I'm thinking there right around the same. 996 prices are coming down and are a bargain right now. With my 987S, I want more HP but in third and fourth gear at 6k rpms, I'm breaking all speed limits imaginable. Still don't know what to do with my 6th gear.
Trimmer, lets see that interior... |
RP - there is some difference in acceleration. My 1999 Carerra has 300 horses. The 987S has about 280 or more depending on year. I do miss the rear trunk already, but you definitely get more attention in a 911. My 911 cost considerably less than a 06 or 07 987S, but it is 6 or 7 years older. It is a personal choice. To early to judge long term but I really like the 911. I am still morniing my box though.

Tell me about that red 944 in the background. Is that a Turbo or S2?
Sweet Carerra BTW. |
Pulled the trigger this week.
There appears to be many of us on this site, maybe we should get a sub-forum. Enjoy your 996, I really liked the 3.4 I had test driven. I visit all of the 996 forums, but only continue to visit this 986 forum. The cars are all very similar and having had a 986 for 12 years I feel like I have a phd on the subject. I love those Carrera classic wheels, wish they sold them with 11" rears.
http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14...4f0895a1ad.jpg http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14...210ed07f05.jpg I just washed her today and added the blue radio surround. I am waiting on a blue painted light dome cover as well. Only other thing I'll be doing to the interior is re-wrapping the steering wheel. I'm going to be removing all the plastic exterior trim along the front/bottom and windshield cowl/wipers to respray. I recently repainted the calipers and bolts and am enjoying freshening her up. I will also be attempting replacing the radiators and transmission mount. While that's going on I'll probably get the front bumper repainted. My car has 50k miles so has a little wear. Nice thing about a 29k mile car is that it's pretty new and you shouldn't have to do much? Just keep up with the oil changes and check that filter (make sure to get a magnetic drain plug). Did your ppi indicate any necessary repairs? Ps waiting on pictures |

It is a bad ass car...so much fun to drive and this one is just about as perfect as you will find. I was lucky to have found it!http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1411907523.jpg |

A friend of mine just picked your red 944 Turbo's twin up at an auction (he's a dealer) for $1900, it was a gamble since they could not get it started to run it across the block which scared most off. He bought it, put a new battery in it and has been totally enamored with it since. He also has an '88 Carrera and an '01 Boxster, doesn't drive them much now lol. When I decided a few years back to sell the 986 and jump to a 911 it was either going to be the 993 series (they were just starting to go up in value) or a 2002 to 2004 996 C4S with those beautiful rear hips, at that time good examples of either were pretty close in price. The power and torque of either (282 hp for 993, 320 hp for C4S) was noticeable vs. my Boxster S's 250 hp, the handling was not quite as good but not far off either. I know it will sound weird but one of the deciding factors for me is that I didn't like the fact that if "upgrading" to a 996 I would be sitting in the identical freaking interior as the Boxster, for some reason that bothered me. At the end of the day, for me, the 993 was the choice since IMO it was the pinnacle of the air cooled 911's. If I were making the choice today it could easily be different since their values have shot up at a ridiculous rate. |
Oops, forgot to say Congrats Fullthrottle..... Enjoy the 996, they're great cars!!

I find in my tt that 6th gear at 2k rpm gets going at 60 so there is little need for the gear unless you are planning to drive 70+ mph.
