Chain Ramps
Had my 2001 Boxster S 49k miles in for an oil change. Found pieces of the chain ramps (black plastic bits) in the oil filter. About 4k miles ago the car had a new LN Engineering IMS retrofit done. As well as new clutch and AOS. No metal found on the drain plug or filter during the most recent oil change. Can the chain ramps be fixed without pulling the entire engine out?
Have put quite a bit of money into this motor. Just looking for some options. Thanks |
Yes they can be replaced with the motor in the car but I wouldn't worry about a few plastic bits in the filter. Its normal. I get it all the time. Just check the cam deviation. When its gets above 6 then its time to do the variocam ramps.

Chain Ramps
Thanks for the reply. Are there any signs to watch out for? Engine Noise CEL etc...
Thanks |
Cam deviation errors.

I could probably change mine in the car now that I have done it once with the motor out. I don't think it would have been easy for a first timer. A mechanic who's done it before should be able to do it no sweat.
