Little diagnosis help please....
1997 Good condition. No problems for last 2-3 years.
Check Engine light on-throws standard codes for dirty or malfunctioning MAF. Cleaned the MAF, reset the codes and happy motoring for 1500 miles. Cel back on, same codes-pulled the MAF, cleaned again. After a brief stumble at startup that I took to be the computer resetting, it ran great. I figure I'm buying time to put a new MAF in soon but so be it. This morning, I back down the driveway and it just felt sluggish. Stepped on the gas and almost zero pickup-gurgle, stinking, gurgle-occasionally is ran normally but for the first half mile it ran iike it was in mud and the engine was under water, MAF? Fuel pump? Other explanation? Help please. Thanks. JB |
May be time to swap the MAF instead of cleaning it. Start with the obvious.

+1 for replace the MAF. Don't over think this. Your car is 17 years old. You've bought a few mile and (temporarily) resolved your issues with cleaning but it keeps coming back.
Replace and enjoy! |
Ran a bit to get it to throw a CEL
and read the codes...
PO302 P1314 Still sound like and MAF? If I recall, last time I cleaned it the electrical connector to it was somehow dodgy. In other words, it ran rough after cleaning and I went back and rechecked the connection and suddenly it improved. Is there a right and wrong way to plug the connector? I guess I should at least clean the connections also just to be sure. Thanks. JB |
