It seems to go back to the 1950's and the Porsche 356. In April I was in Paso Robles, CA and the 356 Registry California regions had their "North Meets South" event. Lots of 356's with the Mobil Pegasus, either in sticker form or a large badge mounted near the bumper.

I mentioned it in this thread. Unfortunately none of the pictures I posted had the Pegaus, but there were tons of them!
