Hi,

The main issues were RMS (continues to plague the M96), a number of engines were assembled with known faulty cylinder liners to avoid falling behind demand with production (but those engines pretty much died an early death, not a problem if you've done 20k+ mi.), and there were some components, such as the MAF which were subsequently re-designed to be more reliable.

There really isn't much more to worry about than the later engines, the reputation is undeserved for the most part. But, these are the oldest engines in the Model Line, and many have now racked up some miles. Some are now naturally having more issues. More a matter of age than any inherent faults...

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99
