Cayman Wheels on a 986 Boxster

I got new shoes for my Cayman...so I swapped out the 17" OEM Boxster wheels with the Cayman's 18"ers and WOW. Super pleased with the results. Does a great job of filling in the wheel well.

You have a boxster and a Cayman ? $$$$ bags.. ;)

I am doing something similar. I have OEM Cayman wheels (17's), but have learned that the base OEM wheels from a 987 are 1/2 inch less wide than the S model OEM wheels from a 986. Went with spacers and they fit fine now.

What's the matter with that? Makes for the perfect set of cars. :)

BTW... the new shoes look good Tucker.

987 rear tires are also a bit taller than 986 so your speedo might actually be.... right. :)

Ha.....yeah the offset in the back is *perfect*. Maybe some tiny spacers in the front....I mean...maybe. It's a good fit...FYI for those thinking about it. My wife is like *WoW* major difference...so bonus points there.

People spend a lot of money trying to make their 986s (now officialky "classic", per Porsche) look more "modern" with headlights and taillights and LED DRLs and such.

Instead of trying to fit today's styling fads in a 20-year-old design, I think all you need is a classy set of wheels and a Boxster looks gorgeous. And you just proved my point.

Very nice, those wheels look great:cheers:

That's what's interesting about 986's. You can really go in either direction. The design is pretty timeless. Everyone that I talk to is shocked to learn that my car is an 02.

That's what happened with mine. The speedo is off by 3 MPH with the 986 OEM wheels and tires on and right on with the 987 wheels and tires on.

Love the cayman wheels. Wish I had a set.

definitely an improvement.

Wheels are very important on Porsches. A simple $1K-$3K upgrade can make the car look 3x's what you paid for it, and if its a quality lighter wheel you'll easily sell it for good money in addition to improving the car's performance and putting less stress on the car.
I never understand why people want to dump the same money into upgrading the power/exhaust when those are very limited returns that just make a lot of racket.

Specifically for Perfectlap....here's a pic of my Cayman with her new 20's.

I agree with you. (Center caps have since been replaced with black Porsche caps)
