wiring a radar detector

Hello,

I have an Escort Passport 8500 that I put into my Boxster. Since the cigarette lighter is not switched, I often either leave it plugged in or forget to plug it in.

I would like to direct wire it and I found on another forum that there is an unused car phone plug in the center console. 12 volt and everthing.

Here is the pic.

What do you guys think? What are the other 2 wires?

Thanks, John

There is a 12v and a 12v switched. I'm not sure about the other wire. I used the 12v switched to wire in another lighter socket which I use for my Escort 9500. I could of hardwired it to the detector, but then I would have needed the hard wire kit from Escort.

Do you know if the one identified in the above pic is switched or unswitched?

OK, so hopefully the last question. What gauge wire would that be? Just trying to order spice connectors.

Thanks in advance.

John
