OK, so I'm fixing all the little things wrong with my '98. Every time I turn around, I have a NEW DASH WARNING LIGHT! First it was the "brake wear "light. Sure enough, the rears were junk, replaced 'em, still the light. I have one rear sensor that the wires pulled out, I'm guessing thats it. Then, I fire it up, the "top" light is on as well as the "rear spoiler" light! WTF! Cycled the spoiler, no luck, moved on to the top, put it up down, up down a couple of times, no change. I'm really starting to warm up to my POS Corvette! Where are the switches that tell the stupid car that everything is fine? I dont have the electrical manual yet (bentley) so any advice in the mean time would be helpful.

The spoiler light will come on when you start the car and stay on until the car begins to move. It will then go out. This is standard operating procedure in the 986.

For earlier ones? Mine goes off after start up.

A low battery will cause all kinds of issues. Start there. Odd lights come on.

Brake wear light comes on if a wire sensor grounds to the rotor or if that loop is open anywhere. If changed on time, those sensor wires will be good forever, or until you get the pads hot enough to melt them.

Your ignition switch may be crapping out on you too.

BTW, unless the previous owners were proactive, your 98 is gonna need a lot of suspension parts, wheel bearings, etc. Dash lights are the least of your concerns.

It's a 1998 - 16 year old car. Any 16 year old car needs care and attention.

I have a 1998 and up till now I have had ZERO problems (knocking on tons of wood right now). Well take that back. I did have the common horn going off while braking, but that was a super easy fix. :)

gmboxster, my boxster has never had a problem either. It's been a problem-free love affair for the last ten years I've owned it. These cars are dependable as a Camry.

I'd say more, but I have to go feed my unicorn skittles. I just love to watch her fart rainbows.

LOL, I'm sorry you have had so many problems. Maybe I'm due or just been very lucky so far.
