Has anyone moved a Boxster on a U-haul carrier?
I need to move about 1-2 small rooms of stuff and my Boxster about 1400 miles. I was considering a U-haul truck with a carrier behind it.
Has anyone her ever put a Boxster on one of those? There are ramps to drive up, but I'm not sure of the clearance on the trailer. It looks like there are straps that go around the front tires, and a safety chain front and rear that you put on something underneath. Thanks for any info! |
I have used the trailer for another car an older IROCZ. what you can do to get around the ramp issue is to either get long boards for the ramps, or you can put the ramps so they extend onto a sidewalk and drive on that way. (both are detailed pretty well online) the iroc is probably harder than a Boxster, as there is a chance you could just back the boxster on as the ramps sit.
HOWEVER, I would consider not doing this with your boxster if you have to go far. Mainly, there are tons of rocks and pebbles that pelt your car as it is being carried. |
The U-Haul trailers are not good for Boxsters.
They have very high tire guides that will destroy the bottom panels. The Penske trailers on the other hand, are perfect fore the Boxster. Happy Boxstering, Pedro |
I rented a U-haul trailer once and used 2x6 boards to raise the car for clearance. It still had stock suspension at the time and I probably would not do it now that the car is lowered.

It may be better to buy a 1-way air fare back and just drive the Boxster to the new home.

What about sending the car on a covered carrier? Can anyone recommend one?
|
I'm planning on using a Uhaul in December from Toronto to Florida so I can have the Boxster with me while I'm there for a month.

Aren't there Ebay Motors shippers that will do this for like $700?
p.s. Check with your insurance on coverage when you're car is the passenger... |
That's why I "love" the Internet ...
... You try to help someone with your experience and someone else calls you a liar. Happy Boxstering

Don't be so sensitive ;)! Happy Boxstering to you too :)! |
Your picture is inspiring! I'm gonna check it out. Quotes for a truck and trailer for my move are about $1800 plus gas, and these trucks seem to get "6-10 mpg"
That's getting into the range where I can just get a PODS for my stuff and drive the Boxster. Quote:

My experience ...
... multiple times with U-Haul trailers is contrary to yours.
What I stated above (and below) is completely accurate. I have had to repair several Boxsters that we're damaged by such trailers, including mine when it was the only trailer option available. If you disagree with someone's comments just say so. Don't state that their comment is not true because that implies that it's a lie. When my character is challenged publicly I will stand up. Happy Boxstering Pedro |

I didn't mean to imply anything about intentional lying, except that I disagreed because I had no problems with a U-Haul trailer, even with my lower Boxster. Perhaps I should have said "Not true in my experience," but I thought that was clear from my post. Maybe I used a different model of U-Haul trailer? (Please be sure to correct any inaccurate information that you ever feel I may offer. I appreciate being corrected if I'm wrong :)! And no, I'm not implying anything ;).) Happy Boxstering to you!
