What small mods made the biggest improvement?

1...Bluetooth stereo. Your entire library right there, wireless.

2...Velcro stick down pads under floor mats. Pads welded in place. Great fix.

3...Rattle patrol. Not a sound. Silent.

Yous?

1. New headunit with bluetooth streaming, now I can enjoy modern connectivity in my old Boxster that some very new cars don't even have.

2. HID Retrofit, dramatically improved the look and night time driving performance, this mod is not very small, but still small compared to many others.

Looks fantastic. Must be great for navi use.

I had it done by www.carsdream.com in Poland. Here is a thread I started on Rennlist when I had it done with photos comparing the old one and the new one. It cost me about $225 back in April 2011.

225$ sounds a lot better than 750$

Super cool ! Good job.

ekam 08-15-2014 07:58 AM

The factory steering wheel is simply way too thin. That and the super-long throw shifter. So for me it's either a padded steering wheel or 9x7 shift console upgrade.

I haven't done much to my Boxster (yet), mostly the usual maintenance items, but the 2 best things so far:

Appearance - get rid of burnt halogen headlights with orange markers and replace with brand new Litronics with clear markers

Driving - replace the worn out front engine mount

Jinx 08-16-2014 03:58 AM

Gray side marker lenses and stealth lamps.

KevinH1990 08-16-2014 11:44 AM

As noted by a previous poster - 04 top with glass window, defroster and headliner - vastly improves visibility and makes the car feel like it has higher build quality.

clickman 08-16-2014 01:11 PM

9x7 short shifter (as opposed to the regular 9x7 shifter) and Nine8Six's xenon projector retrofit.

That's just a drop-in mod, correct? They just fit right in the old hole?

keysguy 08-16-2014 07:34 PM

They actually bolt to the top of the existing pistons.

No you have to make a small adjustment, just 6mm to be exact.

flaps10 08-18-2014 02:21 PM

How much did that nine8six HID retrofit set you back?

Nine8Six 08-18-2014 05:51 PM

^ Norm should have spent little less than $380 for his retrofit ($355 for the kit, some RTV silicon sealant and a can of high temp black paint). Not cheap but mind you, those will last twice longer than the car itself. Precision machined and anodized! Those are not the common plastic/chrome coated shrouds you find everywhere for $40... i.e. they won't peal off & flake or discolor after 12~24 months ;)

I'll jump in and join Norm RE the CGT style HID kit being the best mod done to my Boxster. Not as nice looking as Norm's, with his 911 flavor style/idea, but at least I'm convinced they are as functional as his.
