Need Convertible Relay 986.618.199.00 for 2KS

My convertible top won't operate. Checked out the following and think they are OK.
Rocker switch in dash.
Micro switch at roof latch.
Parking brake light comes on.
All fuses are good ..all of them.

Pulled convertible relay and tapped it on the floor to free contacts. No help. Opened relay to clean contacts and found it is all solid state on a chip board. No contacts to clean or fee up. I did clean the 17 contact pins. No help. Roof still won't work.

Car is a 2000 S. Does anybody have a working relay with this part number for sale cheap ?

Some advice, if you know anyone else with a 00-04 boxster, try your relay in their car and see if their top stops working. Likewise, try their's in yours and see that yours works.

If you'd like, you can mail me the relay and I can test it out for you to let you know if it has failed and how.

Thanks Shahadehd. I'm thinking like that too. Try another one to swap first. I only know another owner with a 99. Going to search around town a bit. I'll let you know if we need to do the mail thing.

THX, Bill.

I thought they all interchanged in these years

The 97-99 relays use analog components to operate the top while the 00-04 use a micro controller. Also, the latch assembly is different in 97-99 and the microswitch assembly for detecting the top position is different as well.

My 01 S

Had a fully solid state relay (which you now have )

Not a moving part in it

By analog parts I meant analog ICs as apposed to digital ICs, which require programming. In respect to the comfort-top, the 00-04 models can be interrogated to work with 97-99. However, the 97-99 relays cannot be retrofitted for forward compatibility. :/

My bad I always think of analog as mechanical components like relays, solenoids, stepper relays etc. So they are TTL Technology and not programmable

Fixed ! I'm happy. Called the local Porsche dealer today. I asked if they could test my relay, Was told to "bring her in to check it out". Diagnostic is $121 per hour. I said no thanks it is a $145 part. The dealer said none of the Porsche whs had one in stock. Item on back order. So I called an indy in my town. He said he had a new relay in stock. Come on over and try it. It worked. I said how much? He said with sales tax make it $100 even.

Idaho Red Rocket 3 08-15-2014 09:34 PM

Pdwight 08-15-2014 10:46 PM
