so how do you position your foot on the gas pedal ?!

one of those seemingly stupid questions.

I have my heel back a bit, on the floor and only the ball of my foot is in contact with the pedal.
This way because most cars I drive the pedal is hinged at the top.
But my 986 and BMW have a long flat pedal hinged on the floor.


Got me thinking, should the whole flat of my foot be on the pedal, heel pushed up against the bottom of the pedal?
How do the porsche racing drivers do it?

I go thinking about this coz I sometimes now get pain in the ball of my foot where I Push the pedal due to joint problems!
