New Boxster Owner - Couple Of Questions

After driving Corvettes for 20 years I just bought my first Porsche a 2002 Boxster (red with 28,000 miles). The car was a joy to drive on the 200 mile drive home last night. I just determined the 2nd key fob remote buttons don't work. Do I have to buy a new key?

You can buy a replacement fob case on eBay and then swap over the key shank and the immobilizer transmitter to the new case. Easy as cake.

Oh, and welcome to the Forum! The only rule we have is: pic's or it never happened! Let's see that almost new red 2002! :)

I'll have to work on the pics as I'm a car guy, not much of a tech guy.

Is the little red light coming on on the fob? Might just be a dead or nearly dead battery.

If you isolate the problem as faulty or worn switches, you can buy replacement switch kits on eBay.

There's also a detailed installation procedure floating around the Net somewhere.

Wow thanks for the responses. The red like on the FOB comes on when I press the button for the front and rear "trunks" but not to lock the door.

I would spend $3.00 or so to replace the battery in the key fob before you do anything else. Mine just happened to die on me 3 weeks ago.

Are you standing within 2.5" of the car?

Ever call it a 'Vette?
