Patch holes on top
Has anyone had any success in patching small holes in a convertible top? If so, what did you use.
My Boxster top is fine, but we picked up a 2000 Volvo C70 convertible for our 16 year old and there are a few small holes in the top. I was hoping to patch them at least for the short term. We don't get much rain here in San Diego and eventually I will replace the top, just want to see if I can put if off for a while as I will need some new shoes for my Boxster soon |
On a jeep top I once used the iron on patches for clothes. It was backed up with a little clear silcone on the inside. These were for holes created through the wear of having an over head light bar and were about 3/8's of inch in diameter. Worked really well. The jeep was tall enough few people ever saw it.

I wish I had pictures to show but...
Clean the affected area place the tape on top of the tear on the outside. Make sure to arrange the fabric so the tear is not open having the tape hold the tear close. if necessary open the convertible top slightly. Put a dab of shoe goo on the inside and around the tear. Place the cloth patch on top of shoe goo. let sit over night remove duct tape in morning. and if done right will almost look invisible. |
West Marine - sail cloth tape or sail cloth patch.
