Yet another window thread
Recently been having some driver side window issues.
When I use the handle to open the door either from the inside or outside the window does not drop down nor roll up. My second issue, which may be related is that the window, when I am rolling it up sounds like the gears grinding. So my question is that is this due to the window regulator or the window microswitch - or possibly both? Any help is greatly appreciated. |
sounds exactly like symptoms I had when my window regulator failed

Same exact issue
I too hope to learn the issue.

Did you replace the microswitch as well? Where did you purchase the regulator part? Thanks again. |
best/cheapest place to get these parts?
|
If you want a used one, try itsnotanova (in the parts thread); new, I've seen people use ebay $100, OEM $170, Genuine Porsche $250. I've heard there may be some problems getting the motor to mount with the ebay one (but that is not always the case). I used the Pelican article and Boxster Projects | Power Window Motor Repair to install. I only installed the reg, no micro switch.

Update: Ended up tearing the door panel off and saw that one of the cable guide wheels had fallen off not allowing the window to roll all the way up due to the cord being wound up too tight. I previously ordered a used low mileage replacement part from a local retailer in town. Total time to replace was about 2 hours with hand tools and alignment.

Thanks, RP. I recommend to anyone considering taking their car to a shop to take a crack at it. It's pretty simple. My biggest tip would be to align the window glass with tape to make an install much easier. I followed the video found here:
