cayman s parts interchangeable with 987?
Think the side intake grilles and mirror arms (Cayman S techquipment) would swap into the 987? Or is there a company out there making these aftermarket parts for the Boxster?
I toyed around with changing my side intake grilles last night, but wasn't happy with the outcome and stopped - my car is black and the side grilles are gray - I took some red pin-stripes and attempted to line the horizontal vents to add some character - unfortunately it just looked terrible (don't you hate when you envision something looking really cool, until you do it?!) Anyone done anything cool with their side intake grilles? |
Hey Mach Schnell, I have been told by a couple good sources (dealer and Suncoast) that the Cayman and 987 side intake vents are NOT interchangeable.
If you want to do something cool with them, have them painted to match the exterior, like the Cayman set-up. There is a Guards Red Boxster on this forum that has done it (Atlanta Chris). Do a search and you can see the results. Bumperplugs does the painting. It is $175 with core exchange. |
Hey bmussatti - thanks! will look for the pix!

As far as the mirror arms go, SD987 showed us that these were for sale long before the Cayman came to market:

FYI!!
www.suncostporsche now has a Cayman Side Vent Conversion Kit for the 987 listed on thier parts web site. It is unpainted and the listed price is $107.24. |
Has anyone thought about changing the 987 rear spoiler with the cayman wing?
It looks like it will fit and only require two parts, the wing and the bottom lip. |
Interesting 987 aerokit in that pic on suncoast's site (not good looking IMHO, but interesting). Color's not too bad either. I don't see any purchase details about it though, so must not be available yet.

I love how they use a picture of the Cayman with the vent, not a Boxster with the vent... bleh. |
On the other thread about the cayman vents SD987 posted this:
Price information, once again courtesy of Chris Huck: 987-504-561-02-g2x vent 987-504-562-g2x vent 987-504-749-02-01c air-inlet 987-504-750-02-01c air-inlet each of the above are 41.59 each - retail price at Pioneer Centres Porsche in San Diego 999-507-585-40 are the fixing clips which you need two of at .93 cents each Any of you SD folks know anything about this - are these the actual cayman vents? Are they really $25 cheaper? |
Sorry, I'm confused--are who $25 cheaper? $41.59 * 4 is $166.36 which is a lot more than a $25 difference from the suncoast price, right?
|
ah yes- therein lies the trick of math - I was reading it as 41 bones for each vent, not 41 for each part number.
|
Pioneer Centres in San Diego pretty much sells all parts for MSRP from what I can tell although they do give a good discount for PCA members. Suncoast's prices are almost universally better.
