Instrument cluster question...the piece of plastic that covers the idiot lights

THis is the one major defect in my boxster, the plastic cover that covers the CEL, airbag etc has a break that looks like someone hit it with a phillips driver or something pointed. I need one to replace mine is there a way to get this off without breaking it ??

Thanks

Dwight

It will not come off easily. You would probably be better off replacing the entire face.

That's too bad. I have a spare cluster but that piece is also cracked on it.

That's a great option. You could even paint it black for stealth or match to interior trim

Mine was cracked, I used nail polish remover(acetone),was very patient to let it seep in and let it sit. It will carefully come off.

Mine

My problem is mine is cracked directly over one of the icons...so the metal cover would be great but it would still be the same.

Is your car a MY2002 or higher (meaning does it have the newer cluster)?

I have a plastic cover laying around that has a straight crack across the "Park" light (it looks much more "dramatic" in the picture than in real live). and with a little patience the crack should be almost invisible.

Let me know if that's what you want, you can have it for free.

On a MY 2002 and higher it's pretty easy to replace that:
* look for DYI instructions to remove the cluster (it's not hard)
* when the cluster is out remove the front face plate (Just be VERY gentle with the two adjusters for time and reset trip counter) when taking them out and especially when putting them back in
* do NOT UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES move any of the needles with your fingers, you will damage the fragile mechanisms of the gauges
* Now the plastic face slides straight off

Didn't the older style stack some icons and the newer were all in a row?
