What do you do when you are waiting for parts?
- Borrow your wife's/GF's car
_Take it to Porsche and say call me when it is done and try and get a loaner? Heaven forbid! - Go to the pub and cry in your beer. After all you have no car so you cannot drink and drive. - Take a bus or walk. First time this has happened in 3 years when my Box is sitting and I won't drive it. It has a steady CEL light on. Guy:confused::rolleyes: |
what OBD2 code did it show?
A steady CEL is not as bad as a flashing CEL! ... so maybe it isnt bad enough to not drive ... possibly just an non functioning O2 sensor .... to answer your question ... whenever Im waiting for parts and not driving ... i start looking for the next projects' parts :D ... its a never ending recursive loop. |
You need a back up car especially if your a DIY and the Box is a daily
You need time to diagnose, wait for parts to ship and then install. Otherwise if the wife's car is the only other transportation, then that's your answer |
Drive the 911...

clean clean clean. I just completed a month of engine work to my 928, it was in many pieces. I took the time to really clean the engine bay, underneath, all over, while waiting for parts. Makes for a much better job to put things back together, and it looks great too. The Boxster is next!

I just received a brand new water pump(plastic impeller) from Pelican Parts yesterday even though the current one is not broken. 13 years old it is time to change it. Of course the CEL light steady came on after I had ordered the first set of parts. Do you agree that I should not be driving the 2001 base Box with this fault on? Do you agree with the fix of the code? Cheers, Guy |

I am not too concerned because my local indy guy is fairly cheap. However the part camshaft position sensor is not specifically mentioned in the 101 Projects Boxster book/project 16. The parts required change according to the engine year. The engine runs pretty well. Slightly rough idle though. Here's hoping this part will fix the problem. Another week before the part arrives. I will let you know how it goes. Cheers, Guy |
Article 26 covers many/most of the engine sensors including the cam sensors:

Since the Box isn't my daily, it isn't an issue. It's only an issue if the E320 is down, too. :D

Drive my Civic hatch.
It handles like a go-kart, is great around town, holds a lot, and gets great gas mileage. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1402674477.jpg TO |

Drive my BMW 550i?

Drive the work truck, intense yard work.

Detail the car.

In these cases, you need to get a VERY thorough PPI done to check everything to know what you're getting into. For example, my $3K Boxster roller had several other problems than just the blown engine and my $10K 996 had a long list of issues that the owner never mentioned. Buyer beware on cheap Porsche's with "known" problems. |
I feel your pain. My boxster has been down for 3 weeks with the hesitation issue while I replace parts and scratch my head trying to logically figure it out.
I'm feeling some serious withdrawal symptoms now as it was my Daily driver. In the mean time I have resorted back to my Jeep Wrangler, and find myself trying to drive it like the Boxster...a little dangerous, (High CG and too much roll) not very satisfying and the gas mileage by comparison really sucks < 18mpg. |
Check tracking, pace around the house, check tracking, count blades of grass, ponder own existence, sweep garage, check tracking, pace some more, floss teeth, groan, pace, check tracking and repeat until parts arrive.
