Replacing shift knob

Im trying to replace my shift kob and boot on a 98 boxster but am having a hard time removing the original from the shift rod. Any ideas/tips on how to get the thing off?

Thanks!
Moe

Lift up on the back of the boot - it is held in place with 4 clips. The knob just pulls off - it is a friction fit - but sometimes the get "stuck." Just pull up hard. If that does not work twist it back and forth then pull. Jeff

Jeff's got it covered...

FYI, it is very easy to do once you get over the fact that you're pulling that hard on something that you think might break . I've taken to pulling the knob off for cleaning and applying leather conditioner to avoid getting any "overspray" on the console.

thanks guys ill have to give it another try, I guess it is the fact that I think im gonna break it or something keeping me from really putting a lot of force into pulling it, but ill try it again...

Thanks!!
