rwhp and other performance

I think my 2001 boxster S isn't stock. first I pulled a 12.9 1/4 time at the drag strip ( on fresh pilot super sport tires). second the same day I stuck with and pulled on a 2014 Camaro SS. third, I'm putting down 240 rwhp with 150K on the motor based off a dynojet. any of this sounds right or is my car modded?

what I'm curious about is. what is average or normal because what this car is doing is not. and the tuning shop wants to see what has been done to it.

If your car is stock 240RWHP seems like the correct amount of power that would make it to the wheels after the drive terrain loss. There are a bunch of slot machine variables that come into play on drag strips, compound of tires, temperature of ground, ambient temperature, how fast your tires can hook, ect..

240 at the wheels seems really high. I would guess between 210 and 220 at the wheels. But even that varies from dyno to dyno and some time by a lot.

this is why I'm asking. 10 hp loss through drive train seems way off. also the 1/4 mile time. something that did amaze me was when it dunked it pulled 240 all three pulls. thinking I got lucky on my second box sterling purchase.

A very, very strong stock 986S will put down 230 RWHP on my dynojet. Are you sure the correction factor was SAE and not STD or DIN? That makes a big difference.

Not saying that 240 from a 3.2 isn't possible, because I have done it and as much as 250, but it requires our cams and heads with a bit more CR.

mustang2porsche 05-23-2014 10:28 AM

sae dynojet. 100% sure.

Even with 240WHP, 12.9s seem unlikely. You must be running 0-60 in the mid 4s.
Are you sure the SS was trying to run away from you? I was running with one at about 130MPH on a lonely strectch of highway when he decided to downshift... The rear end of his car actually "squated" under acceleration at 130. NO way I was even close to keeping up in my 02S.

You must have a really great 986 on your hands!

You would be in some good company...

My heavily modded 2000S pulled 244 RWHP. If your exhaust looks stock, you've probably got a 74mm TB and some software tuning. Nice find.

mustang2porsche 05-23-2014 01:23 PM

the 12.9 I personally couldn't do. my best been 13.5 because my 1st, 2nd shift I can never get right. the SD was an auto so it was slacking but every run I did against him I edge out by a a tenth or two. the only noticable things not stock on my car is the exhaust and suspension

rijc99 05-23-2014 01:41 PM

Under drive pulley?

BIGJake111 05-23-2014 01:42 PM

That is crazy, is your car visualy modded or do you know if the previous owner would have been the type to mod the car. I find it crazy for the car to only loose 10hp to the wheels.

If you don't mind me asking, what was your 60ft and trap speed on the 12.9 pass?

Jake Raby 05-23-2014 01:58 PM

And HP is a derivative of TQ... Here we judge everything by torque and efficiency.
HP is easy to make.

Bigsmoothlee 05-23-2014 02:15 PM

Driving ability and traction make a huge difference in the 1/4 mile.
Pilot super sport tires are basically R comps with tread on them, plus the track is stickier than the street.

Totally possible. You will destroy something in the drivetrain if you keep launching like a maniac and slam gears.

mustang2porsche 05-23-2014 02:28 PM

I only did this to see where I stood against modern day cars. rest of my crazy driving is gonna be auto X and tracks. the Michelin I bought cuz it was buy 3 get the last free and the old pilots suck nuts. I don't remember the guys 60 ft and trap. mines I balled up and threw away only remembering my 1/4 times. my first was a horrible 14.1

Top_Ramen 05-23-2014 03:22 PM

By all means it is possible to pull a high 12 pass just based on numbers. From the average trap speeds that people tend to claim and reviews claim it is possible. I've read lots of mid 13 sec passes from people with the the trap speed to match. Theoretically if you can bust a 1.7 60ft or better then that's your high 12 pass. So props to you on the awesome driving!:)

this makes me wanna take my drag radials off an old pair of f-body wheels and see what I can do in a quarter in my 2.5 .lol

mustang2porsche 05-23-2014 03:45 PM

like I said my best was 13.4, a random Carrera owner did 12.9

Top_Ramen 05-23-2014 03:49 PM

Ohh ok. I read wrong. Mid low 13s aren't bad either. Miss tend to be the norm for the S from what I've seen
