It could. Same as boxster 2006 - 2008 which can not be replaced with out openning the motor up. They were a larger bearing design. Much lower precentage of failure. There are several oil injection caps on sale to aide lubircation by removing the IMS cap, removing the bearing outside seal, and installing a new cap with a tube connect to one of several points to constantly oil the bearing while running.

I have recently completed a directive for the owners of 06-08 model Porsches. This is based on our direct findings from working with these vehicles since they were new.

The dynamics behind their IMS Bearing issues are different. To receive a copy email jud@rabyenginedevelopment.com
