A bit nervous about a screeching noise...

Driving along at low speed the other day and I get a loud screeching sound that is intermittent. I am thinking worst case scenario(well 2nd worst!) that it is the water pump on the way out. Water temp is sitting close to 80C or 3/8 from the left side.
No apparent leaks yet. Perhaps engine is running slightly warmer than normal.

Could this be the water pump? No screeching anymore and motor runs fine(I have the IMS Guardian), no leaks. Any ideas?

Guy.

PS Anybody had this screeching symptom prior to water pump failure?

2001 Box base.Original water pump. 45k miles.

When my WP went, grinding at startup. Had a slight ring around it from leakage but no drip. May be a belt pulley. If it is more consistent, remove belt and start car. Likely not an at temp issue.

Is this more apparent at idle or on deceleration?
