				Window confusion

OK, I have read countless topics on here and other forums regarding window issues. I need a sure answer:
My passenger window acts perfectly fine except that it will not drop the inch when either the inside or outside handle are pulled. Do I need the entire lock assembly? Anyone have the p/n for an 02 S?

I only want to take the door apart once, so I want to order whatever is needed ahead of time.

Thanks,

Likely it needs a new microswitch to activate the window drop.

Also search for threads about window regulator. It may be broken.

See this thread for a potential solution:
http://986forum.com/forums/general-discussions/25704-window-regulator-permanent-fix-stretched-cable-3.html
If you find that your window has a bunch of free play, meaning that you can push the glass up and down about an inch or more with your hand when the door is open, this could be your problem. The good news is that if it is just too much slack in your regulator cable, you can fix it in less than an hour for less than $3.

This is the correct solution.

I don't believe that there is any slack in the window. I believe that it is the microswitches. My question is does the assembly come with the switches or are those separate parts? I want this repair to be a one and done. I have read the other topics and I am just trying to make sure of this.

I had a similar problem and the fix was a new door lock mechanism as described in this thread:
Door window drops but immediately jumps back up
My window would drop when I pulled the handle but it would not stay down until the door was closed. It would jump back up as soon as I released the handle. The door lock mechanism solved the problem. This feature is controlled by microswitches inside the handle.

It's separate from the handle. $43 at Pelican for an OE switch.

it's the whole assembly, microswitches are part of it. There is a thread with a way to fix it, but that did not work for me. I put a new (used) unit in. I just did this job. Make sure you have the correct tools, including the correct torx tool, or you will strip bolts, break plastic trim pieces, etc. Just take your time and it isn't a bad job.

Is there only one switch per window, or one for the inside handle and one for the outside?

I believe it's only one. I'll check my Bentley manual when I get home to confirm that and directions.

That is helpful for future use. Looks like it unplugs from the latch mechanism.
