Dr. Color Chip repair, before or after claybar?
 

I am thinking I would do it after as the paint will be clean and less chance of rubbing it off with the clay bar.

Is that the best way to do it?

Ignorant question, does clay bar remove the old wax or do I need to wash the car with dawn or something like that first?

Yes, use Dawn or similar product it will strip all old was.

Used Dr. Color Chip today, excellent results. I was not always able to smear/smooth it like they said, so on some areas I would leave it high, then take it down with the wipe down chemical. It took a bit more effort but excellent results. I touched up everything from deep rock chips to some light scuff/scratches around the door handles. Great stuff!!

usually it does especially a bio wax like pure carnauba.

Some clay bars are softer, I think Sonus used to make one, that claims not to strip wax.

Dish washing detergent will definitely strip it down to the clear coat.

I like to get out the clay bar while the car is being washed and full of suds.

I've used Dr. Colorchip with good results too.

As has been said, wash with Dawn (or similar) to remove all old wax. Claybar. Wash car again to remove all clay residue. Then Dr. Colorchip.

Less is more when you use Dr. Colorchip. You don't want to smear it all over the paint, just a tiny amount in the chip is all you need. I found using the smallest application brush (literally like a toothpick) and my pinky to smear was fast and worked, and I changed out my glove a few times.

If you've never used Dr. Colorchip, it's best to start on a small non-obvious area of the car. See the result, build some confidence, then take on slightly larger sections at a time.

DO NOT go smear this stuff everywhere right at the start. Believe me, it's really easy to get carried away... start small, stay small. use the minimum.

Once you know how to use the product, it's good. It's not like new paint, but it will take some obvious stone chips and make them hard to see without looking for them. It's a good product that is worth the effort.
