No problems with the engine... I have replaced the water pump twice and AOS four times. I have no idea how many oil changes, ~ 40 times.

No, just twice, both with LNE bearing (single row).

Will be putting some miles on her in June when I drive out to Porsche Parade.

Looks like you caught it in-time... Or maybe just a little late since there is some metal shavings on the end of the bearing assembly.

That's because he drives it every day, year round, and obviously on trips long enough to burn off all the stuff you don't want hanging around in there. Unfortunately most people drive the complete opposite... once in a blue moon, only when the weather is mild and on trips where the oil doesn't have enough time to get up to temp..probably less than 20 minutes.
I don't think it was engineered to do the latter.

I feel woefully inadequate - engine failed (hydraulic lifter) at 136,000 with 89 track days.

Guess my engine was built by a hung-over mechanic on a Monday morning during Oktoberfest. :)

All of that metal has been circlulating through your bearings. Not good.

I think it goes all in the tube but at this point I don't think it matters much anymore with as many miles on the motor. I just drive it. :D

I was looking at a 2000 S, it had 267k on the clock. when I did a test drive, the engine appeared to run extremely well. for that mileage I was surprised. also I plugged in my scan tool, expecting to see a cleared CEL fault, but nothing was triggered. I ended up passing on the purchase, but I was amazed at how well it ran. maybe if the seller had a detailed history on the car I would have purchased it, but I was leery of the purchase of what could have been a ticking time bomb.

Wow, good catch. That bearings really loose and its a double row, which supposedly has a low (<1%) failure rate.

I was about to say the longevity is due to California, but must be due to ocean air as 300k+ in florida

I put at least 60 miles on mine 4-5 days/week to work and back and sometimes over 100 miles on weekends.

Not my car, not a Boxster - but impressing mileage.

Apologies for reviving but just saw this thread.

Some of these really give me peace of mind on how long mine would probably last :)

Mine only has 87,000 on the clock, bought it in November at 81,000, but I do about 12,000 a year at least, drive it through winter, always let the oil get up to temp before driving hard, drive it over 5,000rpm when I can and where it's safe to do so. So the car gets used, which I suppose is much better than garage-queening the car, hibernating it in the winter, short trips, etc. I'm guessing that has the most stress on such parts (IMS, etc).

I haven't replaced my IMS but, due to the condition, full main dealer Porsche service history, and how it's been a daily by past owners, I'm not worried at all. Keep them coming guys, it's amazing to see these engines with high miles! :D

I just rolled 135k but it sounds like I drive just like you, geraintthomas.
