console hinge repair kit

Has anyone repaired the arm-rest hinge using something similar to this:

mine broke today, but it broke on the console side and not the armrest side. I wasn't sure if this kit would work for that.

I've used it. I think mine broke on the console side. If I recall correctly, I had to drill two holes into the console and then rivet a new hinge into it. It is not too difficult. If you don't have a rivet gun, Harbor Freight sells them for about $12.

If you will drive to Richmond and run the rear camera wire into my trunk, I'll install the hinge repair kit for you in exchange.

I also used that kit. Works great, solves the problem, very easy to install.

lol, 9 hours is a bit of a drive. I was actually up that way last month on my way to DC though.
I used a fish tape wire puller (Amazon.com: 50 FT Fish Tape with High Impact Case for Electric or Communication Wire Puller: Home Improvement) to pull both the RCA cable for video and an electrical wire to connect to the back up light (couldn't find the wire under the seat). there was a bundle of wires that runs over the drivers side rear wheel hub (US).

once you fish that wire through that bundle it comes out near the rear light assembly. was tricky getting it started, but once I did it slid through easily and pulled the wires back easily.

This is the tool I'm using:

Nylon Fish Tape - Save Big on this 50 Ft. Nylon Fish Tape

It looks like Harbor Freight carries the one you used as well.

50 Ft. Fish Tape

I'll check it out one night this week. The one you used may work better in a tight spot.

Good luck with your hinge repair.

yeah, the stiffer metal ones have more "push through" in the tight spots. I had to keep poking at it until it finally found a route. seemed like once it "popped the cherry" it made it to the back no problem. came out in the opening beside the lights. had to reach in to get it out in the open. looped the wires, wrapped them well in electrical tape to keep the RCA head from snagging on anything. pulling back through was cake.

How did you route your camera cable from inside the trunk to the area above the license plate?

the camera had about 9 inches of wires connected to it. RCA for video and a power jack. I drilled a hole underneath the overhang just above the license plate (center). just big enough for the RCA jack to fit through. the hole is covered by the camera when mounted. I was to fish the connectors around the rear spoiler mechanism into the trunk through an existing hole and connect it to the long wires I had run from the front to the trunk.
when I get a chance I'll take some photos.
