Dashboard direction indicator light come on in reverse

Hi, my 2003 standard 2.7 has developed a slight but annoying problem. When I put the car into reverse and as part of the reversing maneuver depress the brake pedal, the left direction dashboard indicator lights up statically.

This now happens every time that I need o reverse and use the brake, any suggestions to cause and possible resolution, much appreciated.
