Oil filter removal...can it be done without full oil change?

Can one remove the oil filter between oil changes for inspection without
losing a lot of oil, and avoid a complete oil change service?

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure you can. I overfilled my car with oil from the last oil change, and I removed the filter to drain about more than half a quart. So yes!

The answer is yes,

I bought my 986 in early February and have already changed the filter twice for inspection. You barely even get your hands dirty. You need to replenish the oil in the housing if you discard it, which I did.

Yes, the oil filter is higher than the sump so the only oil you'll lose is what remains in the filter housing (<1qt).
