Flat 4 ?

Why not a flat 2...

I am not expecting a turbo/ yet it makes 400hp. Maybe they are winning Le Mans with a 4 banger electric to prove it belongs in a road car. Next box/cayman will be hybrid.

This will be the flow down of the 918 technology: Flat 4 with 320hp + hybrid battery/electric power of 80hp for short duration = 400hp. Or something fairly similar.

That sounds extremely logical. I just hope it's not true.

Just sayin"..............

I don't like the idea but, think of the low end tourque!

Search the forum archives but there were definitely some electric (possibly hybrid) boxster prototypes running around a couple years ago in Stuttgart. I remember seeing some car spy photo articles going around speculating on what Porsche was up to. I believe this was back when the 918 was still an autoshow concept (possibly prior to that).

Honestly a turbo charged electric hybrid drive could be pretty spectacular. Electric motor for low-end off the line torque and the turbo charged four for for the higher end. I'm sure it would take some finesse to tune the timing of the turbo with the electric motor, but I'm sure Porsche is long past that point with the 918 being made now.

Maybe a generator/motor on the end of the turbo shaft like the new F1 cars to eliminate turbo lag?

That's neat.

Maybe i'll be interested in a used one in 12+ years. LOL

Can't wait to tear into one.. We started with Flat 4s and going back sounds way cool! I'll be inside one within 3 months of the release:-)
