986 to 996

hello

my next car will prob be a 996 (from my current 986S). I want to get a Gen2

what's the easiest way to tell it's a Gen2? It seems I can't rely on the year, or even the shape of the headlights.

When I search Autotrader or google images it's hard to tell exactly where the cut-off date is....

so what's a sure fire 100% sure way to be sure - are there tell tale numbers on the sticker under the bonnet?

It's tricky (for me) at least to tell

thanks

That was probably the 2001 model year in the UK. The headlights are the sure-fired way to tell and the engine size-- 3.6 vs. 3.4.
