Clunk
I am hearing a "clunking" noise coming from under my Boxt. Especially at slow speed, such as right after I back out of the driveway and take off for the day. I heard it once a couple of weeks ago, then not since. Now it's back. Not a good sound. Clunk, clunk clunk.
Sounds like a trip to the mechanic is in order. |
too early
could be motor mount , trailing arm.... does it occur any other time?
|
Typically only when driving slow, it seems. And seems to happen when my wife is in the car, reinforcing her notion that "that car is going to be a money pit"!
My concern of course is that it won't do it for the mechanics. |
yes she is right....however pick up a wrench if you can.. you will save a ton. If its behind passenger seat my GUESS is lower trailing arm. That was my first fix. search on this forum... you will find it. Probably went away when cold. Good luck. How many miles on this car?
|
Is it "clunk, clunk, clunk" as you're backing up, or a single "clunk" as you leave the driveway?
|
I would inspect your driveshaft securing bolts to see they are not loose or missing......
Loos driveshafts make a definate clunk when changing direction and / or going from reverse to forward motion and vice versa. |
I wouldn't worry too much about drive shaft bolts. Axle bolts, perhaps, CV joints, a possibility, suspension parts, maybe. How the "clunk" presents itself will be telling. Rhythmic / going from reverse to forward gears points to rotating parts, over bumps points to suspension.
|
It seems to be moving forward, and yes, over bumps it's worse. I'm guessing suspension.
85K miles. |
Let me know what you figure out. I'm in Houston as well. I have a similar noise. Maybe a joint strike?
|
Heading to the shop on Monday to have them check it out. Will let you know.

They couldn't find a thing. All looks good up there. So, don't worry, be happy, and leave the top down!
