Five Years, Five Oil Change Reports from Blackstone
There were some posting recently on oil analysis from Blackstone. I was out of town and couldn't post the below report I got in January. With the IMS issue with these motors this is just one more precautionary measure.
I have always used Mobil on 0w-40 oil. I just changed over to Joe Gibbs DT40 5W-40 Synthetic Oil. I will be interested to see the next report with the new oil. I also plan on putting a lot more miles on the car this year. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ps813c12c9.jpg |
Excellent reports. :) The viscosity values look particularly good.
I'd also be interested in seeing the report after using the Joe Gibbs blend. I'm considering switching from Mobil 1 0W40 to another flavor; at first I considered Castrol 5W40, but now I'm leaning towards Motul 8100 5W40, as recommended by the Porsche techs at "Excellence" magazine. Maybe we should start a thread or "sticky" where forum users can post their lab reports for comparison and discussion? Just sayin'.............. TO |
ChuckW you should edit your address since this is an open forum.
Take it from someone who used to deal with crooks busted by various federal agencies... |
Something sucked up a lot of the anti-wear package in that last UOA, the Zn was down a huge amount over previous samples.
UOA is a horrible indicator of IMSB condition. |
^ is it possible he had less Zn to begin with? note to self, take virgin sample before filling.

Chuck, thanks for posting your UOA history. I had very similar numbers to yours, but my oil change interval was more like 6,500 miles. I don't think you'll see major changes to your next UOA with the DT40. It will be the test after that (2nd run on the DT40) that you should see the most impact, once the DT40 gets permeated into the system at a higher % and you "wash out" the Mobil package. Jake has said (Lake, at Gibbs, confirmed) that the Mobil package and the Gibbs package fight each other in the beginning, that's why Jake likes to recommend a flush with the BR40 before the DT40.
I plan on running the DT40 in my new Carrera for a little while and observe the UOA's. I may then stay with it or move to the Mobil 5W50, which has given me great results in the past. Much like Redline 5W40 did. |
