Engine access remote stuck

Hi Guys and Gals;
I have a 2004 base Boxster. When i push the door sill mounted switch to open the trunk for engine access, I can hear the actuator move, but the lid won't pop up. Apparently it will not disengage and open. Any tricks i need to know to get this open? Thanks, Mitch.

Ahh. This just happened to me. So you have the electric openers and the rear trunk will not open?

If you hear the lock move but no trunk pop, the wire broke where it connects to the latch.

Is this the case?

Engine access is under the convertible top cover, not rear trunk.
