Boxster is a Keeper! No Longer For Sale!

Last November I decided to sell the Boxster and get another Porsche.

http://986forum.com/forums/boxsters-sale-wanted/49380-fs-2001-porsche-boxster-s-23-200-miles-original-owner-loaded.html

I was looking at getting a 2004 or 2005 Turbo Cab or a 2009 997.2 Cab. I had bought the Boxster new in 2001 after special ordering it. Then, over the last thirteen years I have added some nice mods. With only 23,000 miles, a garage queen and well maintained, I priced it high at $23,500. I had it sold once for $22,500 but the buyer backed out after a death in the family the following day. I had several offers in the $20,000 range. In all honesty, $20,000 is a fair price for the car. But, for $20,000 I figured I would keep it.

We currently keep it covered and it is parked in front of my wife’s Mini Cooper. My daughter is moving out shortly so the Boxster will get moved to its own stall which will make it a lot easier to get to. So, it will be a keeper and I plan on driving it daily. My wife and I currently share four cars. At one time it was five cars and I had a company car. Thus the low miles.

I cancelled the AutoTrader ad and got my money refunded per their contact and took down the Craigslist ads.

Overall, I am pleased with how it worked out. I have saved $30 to $40,000 and I have a great car to drive. And this forum is a wealth of information.

I'm glad to hear you're happy keeping it. Resale on luxury cars has never been worse. It's a very nice car and it's paid for!

There have been sellers of Boxsters on this forum and they have had seller's regret. Happy to hear that you did not sell it. I just hope you get out and drive it!

Was thinking of selling my 2001 Box base but like it too much and I know the car well. No point in selling it with low miles (45k miles). Can't wait till warmer weather comes and then I get it into higher rev range. Still too much snow and ice......:(

Great news! I'm excited to hear you get to drive it as a daily. congrats!

Congratulations. You definitely need to put some more miles on that beauty and enjoy it!

I too am reluctant about selling my Boxster. It's a great car, and I will miss it when it is gone. I am already past the point of no return though now that I've bought 'the next Porsche'.

Right now I can only afford to be a one Porsche kind of guy so the Boxster must go. If circumstances were different I'd keep the Boxster as my DD and take the 993 out for weekends and driving events.

Smart move.

too many Boxsters/Caymans/996-997-991/Cayennes/Panas.

Meanwhile there are few good alternatives without having to dig deeper into your pocket.
And that deeper digging is basically a diminishing returns proposition.

I've spent a lot of dough keeping up and modifying my BoxsterS. But at the same time its only car I've owned since I bought it. All in, I've got probably over $65K into the car. And I still get compliments on it or long stares. Which tells me it's still desirable. In these situations I think its just better to keep improving the car and hope the engine holds up. Although I'm not sure I would pay for a new engine if it were to go.
I'd sooner buy a Boxster Spyder. Don't really have room for two cars right now and with my recent down-sizing to increase investing, that's unlikely to change.

Glad to hear! You have a gorgeous car, I am sure you would have regretted selling:cheers:

Good news Chuck, now let's get you out of the house and play with her a little. We don't bite...

I believe your 986 is a beautifully modded example and doubt you would not be able to recreate it with a newer edition that would provide a better driving experience....Good Decision Chuck........

Thats good news. If no worthy buyer showed up, I think you should drive the snap crack and pop out of that car. Aim for 20k miles this year and enjoy that ride. Very nice car by the way.

Viva 986 !

I know why... It's because Porsche put the 986 into the "classic" category last week. Chuck decided to keep his classic!

Hey chuck, you can start by signing up for the Porsche parade in Monterey this year and doing the whole weeks worth of fun. Registration starts April 1.

See you then!
