Keeping on eye my Boxster

Okay so this might be a stretch for the general section but I want to put up a security camera to point directly at the front of my residence where the car is often parked.

If you have surveillance cameras what kind of set up do you have? Wifi-enabled or the closed circuit type? I've got some kids that are rumored to be vandalizing cars.

Get the camera that have best resolution and video quality so you can see person's face, all that cheap dvr are useless because it is hard to see persons face

I park beneath a camera in the school parking lot, we had a kids mustang get keyed like crazy. So no telling what they'd do to the box without being under a camera. Hope you find a good cam for the car, i have no suggestions though.

I door the same at work. Right under the camera.

Something hi-res, low-lux with a good IR array. I would go wired if possible. A good camera costs money, especially something worth having for night time surveillance. You'll want a decent DVR to go with it.

I would suggest a motion activated light, in addition to a camera. It is possible the light will scare the vandals away, and if it doesn't it will help the camera capture their faces when it is dark.

The cameras I've seen have had terrible range and resolution at night.

I haven't bought any camera equipment from them (mainly A/V adapters and cables) but checkout www.parts-express.com they have great prices on all that sort of DIY audio/video gear.

I bought one of those wifi ir night vision cams for $50

It has motion sensing through the lens and has a web page you can access with your phone, plus it can be controlled, aimed with your phone as well.

it can be set up to email you photos when it senses movement.

it also has a mcrophone and speaker so you can yell at kids via your phone and hear them back talk.

The only thing its missing is the zoom feature which you have to pay a bit more for.
The video resolution is not fantastic and it needs a dvr if you want constant recording, but for the price its a nice deternt and actually useful.

Move. Buy something with a garage.

motion light

I think the motion light is a good, inexpensive solution. Light them up like a Christmas tree. If car gets damaged,i guess you will move on to another...don't you say in at 25k miles out at 70k ? Or something to that effect.

Perfectlap 02-28-2014 05:25 PM

^ I've got that but these kids seem to be at it during school hours when it's full daylight.

I say in after 20K out by 50K. But of course I didn't follow this...

I do plan to move but not this year, I have to sit tight for now. The car was garaged for the first 12 years of its life and it is a huge convenience. In the meantime I'm weighing these different suggestions. At my residence in Florida I set up these decoy cameras that blink a red light. Seemed okay as there its mostly seniors with better things to do with their time than being bored in suburbia looking for trouble.

I just saw a two pack of these at Sams Club this weekend; I didn't even know such a thing existed.
