Anyone take their driving test in a Porsche?
 

Here in PA, we have to take our test in a car owned by someone, so I borrowed my girlfriend's Porsche.

There was a great deal of amusement watching a 36 year old guy take his driving test in a Porsche, by the teenagers taking their test.

Parallel park was remarkably easy since the spaces they provide are big enough for a SUV. The Boxster is a great car to park!

However, the random misfiring problems I'm having right now were problematic because it means you have to rev the engine a little to get going! The instructor said "it's not the autobahn, you know!"

The other problem is forward-visibility which means you want to stop a bit closer to the stop sign than they're comfortable with, so you can see to go around the corner.

The instructor kindly passed me, despite a few cultural mistakes. And asked me to "park his car up in the parking lot when I was finished" :cheers:

Anyhow, thought I'd share my experience. Anyone else take their test in their Porsche?

actually being a teenager i looked forward to this when i got the car before my license... however come to find out while in drivers ed... now you can do your test in the drivers ed car with the drivers ed teacher on their own course.... so i did my test in a beat up early 2000s corolla. I missed 3 points all from being used to the boxster over the corolla haha... the touchy pedal in the corolla had me gas it in reverse on the 3 point turn haha.

No but I know a guy who learned to drive the family car, five speed if memory serves, at the local autocross. Talk about baptism by fire. Back then you could get your license by passing the written test at your high school and then showing up to the DMV to take the road test on a closed lot. In other words you had your license without ever having driven on an actual street! Which explains why you couldn't rent a car until you were out of college for a few years...

I love this forum but it makes me feel like a geezer sometimes and I'm not that old. This has been one of those times. :ah:

Took my test in the 944 Only had one mark against me... you had to tell them the hazards that where on the road... it was lightly raining out, I said all the standards , road was wet, pedestrians exc. She said I forgot to say that it was raining .... I guess I was suppose to say it was raining and the road was wet ..... :ah:

Slightly off topic, I have a cousin who's father used to own a towing business. Kid shows up on his 16th birthday, does his written test, then says he wants the road test. No problem, he escorts the examiner out to a tandem axle tow truck. The examiner passed him, but did not make him do the parallel parking.

I am a geezer - i took my test in a Karmann Ghia, 6 months before I got a 914.

Kid in my drivers training class swerved and hit the gas to hit a cat. Missed. No license that year.

Yeah, you have to actually hit the cat to get the bonus points.

NOt a Porsche but I did take the test in an Audi Fox, look it up kids there actually used to be an Audi Fox

Porsche? Hah, not in my parents house.

I took my driving test in an aged 1968 Ford Falcon, aka Poor Man's Mustang. The only good thing about this car was the Ford Windsor 289 V-8.

Did my driving test with no problems. Now the DMV? That is a problem.

Learned to drive on Dads 67 Dodge Sportsman Van, no power steering, no power brakes, but it was an automatic. I actually loved driving that thing. Took the test with Moms 72 Chrysler Newport Broughm, aka LANDARK.
I actually feel sorry for kids today takes almost a year after you turn 16 to actually get to drive on the road. I got my license exactly 31 days after my 16th birthday.

I took my driving test is a '69 Camaro 307. In an ice storm (I was the last one they let take the test due to the horrible conditions.) It was a little nerve-wracking. Passed, though.

Taught my daughter how to drive in my Boxster and she took her test in it. She passed the first time. :)

Fun stories. I'm sure I'm glad I passed :)
