Tail of the Dragon
I was wondering from those of you who have driven the TAIL, when is the best time of year to drive TAIL of the Dragon ? When is it the least crowded ?
|
weekdays, and honestly, avoid the tail, too much traffic and many roads almost just as good right in the area. The western Carolinas have some GREAT ROADS!
|
Never driven the tail, but I will say that every road out there is awesome!
If you don't want to drive that far west, US501 from Lynchburg to Durham is a great drive. At least that's what I remember. |
Between Chattanooga and Greenville, SC/Charlotte, NC any of the roads going through the national parks there are great. Cherokee, Oconee, Chatahoochee, and Nantahala parks all have great roads. Blue Ridge parkway is a classic.

Had some serious fun in my box in Pickens and oconee

Mid morning weekdays has always worked for me. I like the first week of November the best when the trees are in full bloom. June last year was fun.

I plan on taking a roadtrip from Syracuse, NY to Greenville SC next fall. I will have to keep this thread in mind for that!

father actually works at the dealer, he really enjoys it. Lots of P cars around, no 911 snobbery either, everytime i pass another Porsche the owner waves or flashes their lights!
