Well, ok then. My fastest wheeled land based speed is ~220 MPH on the Paris-Strasbourg TGV. Our favorite mode of transport while we were living in Europe.

That's cheating!

121 mph in the Boxster, at a track day at Pacific Raceways.

154 mph in my old RX7 race car at Portland International Raceway.

167mph on the Autobahn in a 991.

[QUOTE=Oldcarguy;569561]An effortless 148 MPH (per my gps) in my 2005 Jaguar XKR. Love my 986s, but I really miss my XKR with its supercharged 4.2 liter V8. It was a true luxury GT (and my daily driver when we returned to Houston after our 10 year expatriation).

You have good taste, Here's my former XJR:

You beat me to it! I once used a Garmin on a flight to SLC, and recorded a stupid speed...if I remember correct it was above 770mph, but I suspect the gps was wrong, or Delta had gone supersonic. I still have it saved on that old Garmin, but the damn thing won't even power on now.

The GPS shows your groundspeed, not your airspeed. If there is a tailwind, you can see crazy numbers like that. One time on a Delta 767 from Seattle to Atlanta, I saw 750 mph on the GPS.

Going from Anchorage to Seattle, the plane arrived an hour late due to record winds. Fortunately, it was record tailwinds going the direction I was headed! What was normally a 3 1/2 hour flight took 2 1/4 hours. I would've loved to seen our groundspeed!

Same for me! TGV from Lyon to Paris and Shinkansen from Tokyo to Kyoto.

About 180 in a normally aspirated Indy car at Las Vegas speedway.

BirdDog 05-07-2018 05:24 PM

It was many years ago, but 212 mph (est) while skydiving...

Fastest speed in my Boxster S was about 100 mph less than that. :)

bockster75 05-08-2018 11:20 AM

139 mph on my way home from Wisconsin the day I purchased it. Never felt a car as controlled at speeds over 100 as the box. And man, that SOUND! Suddenly understood the p-car hype and was sold on them from that moment.

Benitom 05-08-2018 12:24 PM

110 mph on California Highway 5. Subaru BRZ accelerated next to me so I followed him for a few miles for fun until I hit my exit.

During a few moments of sheer stupidity on a straight empty 2 lane highway I took my 1991 Carrera 4 to 165 MPH to see if the top speed was really limited...it was. I could not get it past 165.
My fastest moment of stupidity in the Boxster is 115 MPH on an empty stretch of Interstate freeway.
I'm too old to be doing these kind of stupid things...

kk2002s 05-09-2018 03:32 AM

112 mph GPS on the hwy, daytime top up. I have done 100+ top down in the day time
No drama, could go much faster car handling wise, but smart wise on public hwy, bad idea
BUT when I drive at night with the top down at 75ish (GPS) I feel like I am going so much faster. It always strikes me how the perception of speed changes for night time

Are your rear tires shorter than stock ?

xzyfsk 05-10-2018 12:42 AM

137 in my Boxster a couple days after i bought it.

I have stock tires and rims that match the documentation on the car, however probably some variances in speedo readings and then add in the BS factor :D adds at 15 MPH :D

So divide speedo reading by the BS factor you now have a ball park estimate of your fastest speed! :D

JBauer 05-10-2018 03:53 AM

I've never driven fast enough for my spoiler to raise. 🙄

That's why there is a button to raise it, makes you look fast! ;)
