Grinding noise from steering wheel

Has any one else experienced this? I have noticed a grinding noise whenever I turn my steering wheel on '01 Boxster w/35K miles.

I know that my 540i had a issue with the slip ring on the steering wheel that used to cause a similar noise and went away after replacement. Is this also common on the Boxster? Would this be a warranty issue?

Thanks!

Hi,

Have you had your Wheel and Column Switch off? Or has there been any worked performed which would require the Wheel or Column Switch's removal?

There is a specified Gap between the very Tip of the Steering Column and the Sheet Metal Face of the Column Switch which must be maintained. This Gap is 55±0.5mm or 2.16±0.02 in. Without this Gap, the Wheel will make the sound you describe. Hope this helps...

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99
