Carbon Fiber Warping!

Hi,

I've got a loaded '99 boxster with the large carbon fiber package in it, and the carbon fiber is warmping and coming unglued! It began with the door glovebox panels, the fiber warped and popped off, and now the shape is different.

I'm wondering if anyone has seen this before and if there's a way that I can fix it...I've written Porsche several times and they won't help out.

Has anyone seen this before and potentially have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Do you have the factory carbon fiber package or an aftermarket stick-on variety?

The factory stuff doesn't do this because it's bonded into the piece of plastic on which it resides. The aftermarket stuff does if left in the open sun because it's just stuck down with real sticky adhesive...and some of that adhesive is better than others. That's probably why Porsche won't give you the time of day.

Drop by a Chrysler dealership and ask for the sales manager. Ask him for the name of the interior trim guy he uses for adding wood and aluminum facing to the 300M's all over his lot, and get that guy to look at your car and glue them back down. Let a pro do it and you'll never know it was peeling up.

I have a buddy here in Houston who does wood, carbon and alum. interior kits for dealerships all the time and he does repair work on their used car lots as well. But, he doesn't do work for european delearships because all their interiors are already real wood or carbon. He works mostly for American car company dealerships.

Thanks for the feedback

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback...that's excellent, and I'll check with a local dealer on the trim.

Interestingly, the carbon is from the factory, and in fact was talking with my local Porsche service writer (@ the dealer around here) and he said he saw an '04 turbo come rolling in with the same deal.

I also noticed your car with 94K on the miles...mine's a '99 and I've got nearly as many - still runs well.

Thanks again!
