Finland vs. Germany
Where was your Porsche produced, does a higher or lower relibaly relate to one factory or the other (my Porsche is a skandinavian beauty)
|
My silver '99 Boxster (totaled) was from Finland, the '97 Boxster race car is from Germany.
There is no known quality or reliability difference between the two locations that I've ever heard about. |
My 2 favorite cars, Boxster and Viggen, were both produced by Valmet in Finland.
No complaints. |
My speed yellow 2000 S model was built in Finland. :)
And I love the hell out of it! |
2003 S: Finland (all Boxsters weren't made in Finland?),
|
There was an article or something a ways back indicating that by and large Finish workers at Valmet were better educated and better trained than the workers on the German assembly lines. My Valmet car was the absolute most reliable car I'd ever driven perhaps tied with our old Volvo 240 and 960 family cars.
Looking at the Cayenne and the very mixed reviews from their owners I have to wonder if there isn't something to that article. |
nieuwhzn - you had a viggen?!?! luck man. my first fast/fun car was a 1995 900 turbo (I don't count the spitfire as it never really ran) and was a blast. good luck finding a viggen anywhere now, let alone any saab from the mid-90's.
hijack over; my car was made in finland and I like it - dunno if that means anything? |
My '98 Box was obviously built in Finland. In my four years of ownership she's had nothing but routine maintenance.
|
Mine is also a Fin-built. I've heard the statements before about the workers being better educated etc. as Perfectlap states.
|
My 04 was built in Stuggart so I must be special.
Both my Berettas are made in US however. |
My 986 is from Valmet. In the past when this question has popped up, the general consensus was that there really is no difference.
|
Finland...
|
Ok so stupid question: How do you deteine where your box was built?

Mine's Finnish. Only difference I feel is the location they were assembled!
|
"U" not "V". If there is a U in the VIN, it was built in Finland.
Valmet in Finland is regarded as having very high standards with regard to the Boxster. They apparantly developed a water-based paint regiment that Porsche later implemented in Germany. |

Ausgezeichnet!
I bought my 2001 S without knowing where it was built, but I admit to being pleased when I discovered it was built in Stuttgart. I guess that makes me a snob. Sorry.
|
I'm a Stuttgart snob too!
|
Suomi it is
|
Strange, the Dangermobile's stamp is in Russian ?
|
My 1999 came from Finland, although I have been to Stuttgart, does that count? :D
|
I've heard the Finnish-built cars were of a better overall quality than the German-built units. I can't claim that myself, though mine has been excellent, and was built in Uusikaupunki.
The 981 is built in Osnabrück (old Karmann factory) and Stuttgart. |

I'm trying to keep the Viggen in one piece. Like you are saying, not too many of them around anymore and only about 3000 were made. Collectible in the making. |
While we're on the subject, lets all learn the correct name for the town in Finland which puts the U in our VIN numbers: Uusikaupunki.
My Boxster is Finnish, as is half of its owner, and that suits me fine. |

JD…just wondering if you wouldn't mind removing the JB header from your thread… he's from a little town in Canada that no one's ever heard of and he makes me noxious… thank you |
German built here- great build quality, paint is the best paint I've ever seen on a car, and has been dead reliable as long as I've had it.
|
My 2004 S was built in Stuttgart. Always felt special because of that, but I am sure it was just mental.
|
Finland. I'd prefer Stuttgart but that just cause I'm German. Not sure there is any real difference.
|
Finland. While I might subconsciously what my German Porsche to actually come from Germany, I can not see any area on my Boxster that could have been improved. Fit, finish, paint, ect. Now with only a measly 66,000 miles on the odometer, I have many more miles for evaluation.
How many cars actually come from their origin country any more. All my newer American cars were made in Canada. My first import car, 2009 Nissan, made in US and on it goes It's all about the process and following it to make the quality. |
