Boxster S vs GT 5.0

I was stopped at a red light on the way home from a haircut; and two Mustang GT 5.0 pull up to the light revving their engines and edging me on.
I took the bait and launched from a dig and did a 1st and 2nd pull. I murdered the 5.0s, all they saw where the Boxster tail lights. It wasn't even a contest :). I however do not condone racing.

Anybody else have any stories?

No, I don't take the bait. :p That and I don't need any undue attention.

Paul Walker has a story....having said that, I smoked a '80s Camero

rp17 01-08-2014 07:30 PM

That's strange. Thought they would smoke a boxster off the line. That car is built for red light racing. Boxsters are built for the track.

Yeah same here. He didn't say what year & that varies alot by the year.

One of the 5.0s was a 2004 or maybe a year older. Not too sure on the other one's year but I think it was probably a 2006 or older.

Porsche9 01-08-2014 08:22 PM

A 2004 has about 260 hp and is significantly heavier then a Boxster. They are about a 0 to 60 in 6 car. BTW they actually have a 4.6l. A 2011 or newer 5.0 would rip you a new one. The newer 6 cyl might get you too as they have 305 hp. I am sure they thought you were driving a girl's cars and ended up being a little surprised. Keep it safe.

I also like doing max performance launches from a light but if I think someones trying to race I
Go slow and calm because street racers do stupid things and I dont want end up in a wreck because
of someone elses stupidity.

Most of those with more car than they can handle cant stay in their lane or control the spinning rubber.

You will have more Porsche fun on a track and it will be way safer and more rewarding when you beat another S.

Beating anything else is just a waste of time.

I just yawn , sit back and enjoy the music when street racers are around.

RawleyD 01-08-2014 08:37 PM

haha, I always take the bait. Why do you think I bought this car? ;)

Yeah I smoked an older 5.0 in the rain a while back. When we stopped at the next light and chatted, he was going on about how his car has major trouble hooking up on a rainy road.

Nice fellow, claimed he had a Porsche at one point in his life and totaled it.

Nah, I think it's pretty fun. . taking on all comers! lol :troll:
Only in a safe manner of course! a few seconds of high revs just to show what's capable.

One of my favorites was annihilating a hatchback with 4 teenagers inside.
I didn't even have to try .

There's more fun to be had at the track. Doing a A/X at the Bonduraunt road course this Saturday.

Yellow986S 01-08-2014 08:53 PM

My favorite experience was a few roll races on the highway with an 87 supra full of teenagers.

I agree that the track is the place to go fast. Much safer and cheaper compared to CA's crazy priced tickets.

I can't wait for my next track day. :)

Porsche9 01-08-2014 09:13 PM

The A/X I'm doing is $40 thru AZ PCA. I used to do them in In CA years back. A DE at Streets of Willow was $100 including lunch. Monterey isn't too far from where your at. Now that would when hell of a track to run on.

particlewave 01-08-2014 09:21 PM

I dropped the hammer once when I first got the car. The smell of burning clutch and $'s has kept me from doing it again...that, and the stupidity of other drivers ;)

PorscheBound 01-09-2014 04:24 AM

Never launched this car and don't plan on it. I am however curious to know what RPM you guys are launching at though. Any spin at all? I wouldnt expect any.

I am the same . I did it once coz I was in the wrong lane. As for racing it is so wrong on the street. About 10 years ago a Corvette here did a burnout start from a downtown intersection. Something broke, the car went sideways and killed a woman on the sidewalk. That should scare anybody thinking of doing this kind of thing.....:(

kk2002s 01-09-2014 05:37 AM

I don't know how accurate the Boxster's advertised 0-60 in 5.5 secs is but even a few ticks less, that is pretty quick.
I had a 02 mustang gt (4.6 - equal HP but a bit more torque) and it was surprisingly quick but I don't think it was as quick as my boxster.
While I also would not launch the boxster, if you can get a clean 1-2 shift, you can get up to speed pretty quickly

OKCShooter 01-09-2014 06:53 AM

If you want to have a car that launches, sell the Boxster and get a different car.

Mark_T 01-09-2014 07:20 AM

I don't understand why you people are trying to drag race these cars on the street. It's not what they are designed for and you will expensively break them, not to mention the high probability of a big ticket and a suspended license, or the equally high probability of killing some poor schmuck that happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
