One less 993 on the road
 

Had a fantastic time with the 911 guys doing a run up in the north GA mountains today. I was the only Boxster in the group but they welcomed all enthusiasts and are a great bunch of guys. We topped it off with a tour of Jake Raby's garage...overall a fantastic day.

Thank God he's OK. There are more 993's out there.

I read about the planning of this run a week or two back on a 993 board, this incident hasn't been mentioned there yet. They did comment on how cold it was, driving my 993 on Potenzas anything under 32 degrees always makes me a bit nervous.

Looks like to roof held up well...I take it the driver got a bit too rambunctious?

Glad to hear no one was injured, but the 993...it should buff out.

That 993 would be a great donor for an older 911 project that needs a nice drivetrain :-)

Although physically okay, I bet the driver is completely shattered morally. I feel for him.... really sad

Yeah, Ed is already kidding about it on the 993 forum, that says alot about him. I did this 24 years ago in a Corvette, was with a friend who did the same (we had matching Cobras) on The Dragon 7 years ago. It can happen to any of us in an instant, for Ed this too shall pass, cars can be repaired or replaced.

Yeah, it happened quick and I was only 2 cars behind. I know Ed felt terrible about the car, but to see him standing without so much as a mark was incredible. Cars can be replaced...

Glad he wasn't hurt. A shame to see what I am sure was a clean 993.

I saw the announcement for this on Rennlist, and had been tempted to make that run today. But, I have been on multiple sport bike rides around 129 / 180 / 60 / Richard Russell where egos take over good sense and somebody gets hurt.

So now I usually just tell somebody I'll meet them at a rendezvous point rather than have somebody get messed up trying to keep up. These scenes have just reinforced my thinking - take it to the track.

That'll buff out no problem. :)

We are doing the annual NYD run tomorrow am hitting the canyons around LA and I expect over 100 cars total. Generally everyone uses their heads but once in a while someone runs out of talent and puts his car in a ditch. A toast to driver wisdom and excess within control on the public highways. :cheers:

A car is a car and can be replaced, people on the other hand are unique and every time I see threads like this I am glad to hear the driver/riders got out OK. Always interesting to see what folks do after the fact...does it go to the boneyard or does it get revived?

During the 10 years I owned 993s (Cab & Turbo) I lived on the Rennlist 993 forum. Great cars and some of the finest car enthusiast you will ever me. Ed is one of the mainstays of the board. Love the 993 but if you hang the tail out too far it will slap you hard. No electronic nannies besides ABS to help folks like me. I auto crossed both 993s and had a ball exploring the cars limits ... and knocking down cones.

Glad Ed walked away with nothing more than a bruised ego.

I'm still on my Pilot Super Sports and definitely noticed the back end trying to step out on me if I give any throttle turning at an intersection.

I need to go to TN for a couple weeks from NY and haven't decided whether to fly or drive.... sure would be nice to have Veronica down there, but don't want to end up in a ditch!

The engine is in the wrong place! :(

No matter how much mechanical grip, and how many electronic drivers aids Porsche engineers incorporate into this outdated and obsolete layout, it will always be susceptible to driver error.

Glad to know that the driver is OK, and yes, that should all buff out. :)
