How many interior trim levels for the 986?

I thought there were two. Leather and leatherette. I guess the leather option could be full leather or just seats. I ask because I'm working on a 98 that has a dash that is not leather. It needs a passenger side dash air bag cover. So, I thought leatherette was my only other choice, but I've seen some leatherettes that look closer to leather than what I'm working with.

now I wonder if there were three trim levels. A wee bit education would be helpful. Thanks, Joe

There was a standard leather-look vinyl, leather, and sort of a grid-patterned vinyl I believe.

My car, a 2001 S, has the sport design interior package that features matte finish silver paint on the console and other plastic trim pieces and a diamond patterned vinyl on the dash and doors.

There were a ton of packages and individual options ( somewhere I have the brochure for the 2000 Boxster and Boxster S). In North America, the base interior had leather seat surfaces - the rest of the interior was vinyl. One could then order partial and full leather packages, carbon fiber packages, wood packages, painted consoles, porsche embossed crests in the headrests, colored seatbelts and at a certain point, sports seats became available (2001?). Of course, even the floor mats were an option.

The standard configuration was a mix of leather, leatherette/vinyl and plastic on the dash. I believe all the seats are leather, although the seat backs could be upgraded from leatherette to leather or painted plastic. If you have ever been to the Porsche website you know Porsche allows you to customize/upgrade almost everything. My 986 for instance has only a few minor plastic pieces on the dash, everything else is 100% leather. The PO even ordered leather wrapped air vents (which you can also get with deviated stitching).
